Is Microsoft Office Professional 2007 still safe to use?

I have been using Microsoft Office Professional 2007 for all these years. I don't email, share, or download any of the files in the suite. Is it still safe to use as long as I don't involve the internet? I have a reliable anti-virus with many additional programs running along with it. I occasionally run a full system scan and so far have never experienced any virus problems. I download PDF files with Adobe. I have some files like MODI and Hallmark Event Planner which I believe use Microsoft Work 6.0 and/or Office Pro 2007. I can't afford to lose either of these programs. (I do have a valid Microsoft Work 6.0 license.)

    Hi Chuck, Welcome in Community

To ensure your setup remains secure while maintaining these older programs, you should treat the machine as a restricted environment. Ideally, you would keep the computer entirely offline and use a "bridge" method by downloading your PDFs on a modern, updated device and transferring them to the older machine via a scanned USB drive.

    Why?

Because a malicious actor can embed code in a PDF or a website that targets older software vulnerabilities on your system. If Office 2007 is installed on a computer that touches the internet at all, it is technically "visible" to threats that look for unpatched software.

Sure, it might not happen, but what if it does?

Then, since Office 2007 lacks the robust "Protected View" and sandboxing features found in modern versions, you must avoid opening any Word or Excel files that you did not create yourself on that specific system. Furthermore, because you use Adobe for your PDFs, it is critical to ensure you are running the most recent version of Acrobat Reader DC, as outdated PDF software remains one of the most common entry points for digital threats.

Also, keep in mind that software that is no longer supported may stop working at any time, especially after installing system updates or similar.

Let me know if you have more doubt

    Elvis
