This method is often more reliable because it gives a direct handshake with the Microsoft licensing servers rather than relying on a browser that might have expired.
In cases where you have recently swapped out major hardware like a motherboard, clicking the "I changed hardware on this device recently" link within that same menu is usually the most effective way to re-link your digital license without needing a manual ID entry at all.
