On my Mac, Parallels Update caused BitLocker Lockout of the Windows 11 on my virtual machine.

Only solution is to attach a Windows 11 ISO to the VM.

What is a Windows 11 ISO and how do I attach it to the VM?

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

You can download the Windows 11 ARM ISO file from the Official Microsoft website here-

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11arm64

    Select Windows 11 (Multi-edition ISO for ARM64)

    Then, select your language

    and click Download now.

You can use this ISO file on your Parallels to install Windows 11.

    --*

To uninstall the previous version of Windows 11, go to Parallels > Select Windows > Control Center > Right-click the Windows 11 operating system and select 'Remove Windows 11'.

Move the operating system to the trash.

    --*

    To install the ISO File,

Open Parallels Control Center and click the 'Add +' icon

You will be provided options with -

    1. Get Windows 11 from Microsoft.
    2. Install Windows or another OS from an ISO Image file.

Clicking option 1 will automatically download and install the Windows 11 Operating system for you.

If you have an ISO file, you can select the second option and proceed with the installation.

Let me know if you still need more help.

A Windows 11 ISO is a single disk image file that contains all the installation files for Windows 11. It is used to:

    • Install or reinstall Windows 11
    • Perform a repair or in-place upgrade
    • Create bootable USB/DVD media
    • Install Windows 11 in a virtual machine (VM)

On Windows, an ISO can be mounted (opened) like a virtual DVD drive so that setup or repair tools can be run from it.

    For Windows 11 specifically:

    • ISO files can be downloaded from the Microsoft software download site.
    • They can be used directly (mounted) inside an existing Windows installation or attached as virtual media to a VM.

To use a Windows 11 ISO to repair or work with a VM (conceptually):

    1. Obtain the Windows 11 ISO from the official download page (for example, via the Download Windows 11 or Download Windows 11 Arm64 pages, depending on the VM type).
    2. Attach the ISO to the VM as virtual media (in the VM settings of the hypervisor, such as Parallels, Hyper‑V, or another platform).
    3. Start the VM and either:
      • Boot from the ISO to perform a clean install or advanced repair, or
      • Mount the ISO inside the running Windows guest and run setup.exe for an in-place repair/upgrade.

On Windows itself, mounting and running setup from an ISO works as follows:

    1. Save the ISO file on the PC/VM.
    2. In File Explorer, right‑click the ISO and select Mount. This creates a virtual DVD drive.
    3. Open the new virtual drive in File Explorer and double‑click setup.exe to start Windows Setup.
    4. Follow the on‑screen steps (for a clean install, choose Change what to keepNothing; for repair, choose to keep files and apps if offered).

For Windows 11 on Arm (as commonly used with Macs using Apple Silicon and Parallels):

    • A Windows 11 Arm64 ISO can be downloaded and used to create or repair a VM.
    • The ISO can be attached to the VM and used in the same way: boot from it or mount it inside the guest and run setup.exe.

If the VM is BitLocker‑locked and requires recovery, the ISO is typically used to boot into Windows Setup or recovery tools so that repair options can be accessed.
