A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Hello. Make sure all files are available offline first (right-click files in OneDrive folder → “Always keep on this device”), then copy everything to the external drive. This ensures nothing is missed.
- Open File Explorer
- Go to your OneDrive folder (usually under your user profile)
- Connect your external HDD
- Copy and paste (or drag) the files/folders from OneDrive to the external drive
This works because OneDrive keeps a local copy of your files.
If your files are only in the cloud (not downloaded yet):
- Open OneDrive in your browser
- Select the files or folders
- Click Download (this will create a ZIP file)
- Save that ZIP directly to your external HDD
OneDrive does not create automatic external backups. You are manually copying data, so you’ll need to repeat this process periodically to keep it updated.
