Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

What is the exact error message you see when you try to sign in with your Microsoft account in the Link to Windows app on your mobile device?

Are you able to sign in successfully with the same account in the Phone Link app on your Windows PC?

To pair the Android phone with the Windows 11 PC using Phone Link, follow these steps. The registered phone number is not used for pairing; pairing is done through the Phone Link and Link to Windows apps with the same Microsoft account.

    1. Confirm requirements
      • PC must be running Windows 10 (May 2019 Update or later) or Windows 11.
      • Android device should be Android 8.0 or later (Android 10+ recommended).
      • PC and phone must be turned on and connected to the same Wi‑Fi network.
    2. Start setup from the PC
      1. On the PC, in the taskbar search box, type Phone Link and open the Phone Link app.
      2. If prompted, sign in with the Microsoft account that will also be used on the phone.
    3. Prepare the Android phone
      1. On the Android device, open a browser and go to the link shown in the Phone Link app (for example www.aka.ms/yourpc) to install or open Link to Windows.
      2. In Link to Windows, sign in with the same Microsoft account used in Phone Link.
    4. Pair using QR code (recommended)
      1. On the PC in Phone Link, select I have the Link to Windows app ready, then choose Pair with QR code.
      2. A window with a QR code appears on the PC.
      3. On the Android device in Link to Windows, select Link your phone and PC.
      4. When asked Is the QR code on your PC ready?, select Continue.
      5. Allow camera access when prompted, then use the in‑app camera to scan the QR code on the PC.
      6. Accept any additional permissions requested on the phone, then select Done and return to the PC.
    5. If pairing fails or devices were linked before
      1. On the Android device:
        • Make sure Link to Windows is updated to the latest version.
        • Open Link to Windows.
        • Tap the Microsoft account name under Linked account.
        • Go to Account settings > Sign out and unlink account.
        • Confirm by tapping Unlink.
      2. On the PC:
        • Open Phone Link.
        • Go to Settings > Devices > Add new device and follow the pairing steps again.
      3. If the issue persists, close and restart the Phone Link app on the PC and retry the setup.
    6. If codes do not match or there are too many attempts
      • If code matching fails more than three times, close and reopen Phone Link on the PC and restart the setup from the PC. You will then be prompted to accept permissions instead of matching codes.
    7. Verify same Microsoft account is used
      • On the PC, sign in at https://www.accounts.microsoft.com/devices/android-ios and check that the Android device appears under the account.
      • On the Android device, open Settings > Accounts (or device‑specific Link to Windows settings) and confirm the Microsoft account email matches the one used in Phone Link.
