When I try to download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft store I get a message that says there was an issue and I should try again later.

    Hi, good day!

That’s frustrating, especially when you just need the HP Smart app to work. That message usually means the Microsoft Store is having a temporary issue or there’s a problem with the download.

Here are some of the few things you can try.

    • If you have a third-party VPN or Antivirus installed, please try to temporarily uninstall it then check if the issue persists.
    • Please try changing your Region to United States if it helps.
    • Please try signing out your Microsoft Account from the Microsoft Store then sign-in again
    • Check the Microsoft Store Install Service

Press the Windows Key + S and type in services.msc.

Find the Microsoft Store Install Service and double click, If the status is Running, right click it then select Restart

If disabled, change it to Automatic, click Start and click OK.

I look forward to your update and am happy to continue working with you until the issue is resolved. If you find the answer helpful, please click "Accept Answer" and consider upvoting it. Otherwise, please keep me posted by clicking "Add comment" below instead of selecting Yes or No.

Use the following steps to troubleshoot HP Smart not downloading from Microsoft Store on Windows 11:

    1. Reset the Microsoft Store cache
      1. Press Windows key + R.
      2. Type wsreset.exe and select OK.
      3. A blank Command Prompt window opens and closes after about 10 seconds, then Microsoft Store opens automatically.
      4. Try downloading HP Smart again.
    2. Check common reasons an app cannot be found or installed If HP Smart still will not download or shows an issue/try again later message, check the following conditions that can block installation:
      1. Region availability: The app might not be available in the current country/region.
      2. Family settings: Microsoft family settings can hide or block apps based on age restrictions. Ensure the correct account is signed in and that family restrictions allow the app.
      3. App removed or replaced: The app might be removed from Microsoft Store or replaced by another HP app. In a similar case, HP support provided a direct link to a different HP app instead of HP Smart.
      4. Device compatibility: If the device is not compatible, Microsoft Store may hide or block the install button.
      5. Pending restart after updates: If Windows updates were recently installed, restart the PC and try again.
      6. Device not authorized: Ensure the PC is signed in with a Microsoft account and added as a device for Microsoft Store apps. See Add a device to your Microsoft account / Manage your devices for Microsoft Store in the referenced articles.
    3. Verify Microsoft Store itself is working
      1. Confirm other apps can download or update. If no apps download, follow the Store troubleshooting checklist:
        • Verify Microsoft Store is registered for the user with Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.WindowsStore* in a non‑elevated PowerShell.
        • If needed, re‑register Microsoft Store using Add-AppxPackage -RegisterByFamilyName -MainPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe as described in the troubleshooting article.
        • Ensure Microsoft Store is not disabled by policy and that required endpoints are not blocked by firewall/proxy.
      2. Optionally, try installing another free app to confirm Store downloads work in general.
    4. If HP Smart specifically continues to fail Since HP Smart has been replaced by another HP app for some users, contact HP support or check HP’s site for the latest recommended Windows app for the printer. In a similar case, HP provided a direct download link to a newer HP app, which resolved the issue when HP Smart from Microsoft Store would only show a blank screen.
