To type diacritic marks in New Outlook on Windows, use Alt codes with the numeric keypad, or the Word/Outlook keyboard shortcuts for accents.
Method 1: Alt codes (number pad)
- Turn on Num Lock.
- Hold Alt.
- Type the code on the numeric keypad.
- Release Alt.
Examples (Windows):
- Acute vowels: Á (Alt+0193), É (Alt+0201), Í (Alt+0205), Ó (Alt+0211), Ú (Alt+0218), Ý (Alt+0221)
- Grave vowels: À (Alt+0192), È (Alt+0200), Ì (Alt+0204), Ò (Alt+0210), Ù (Alt+0217)

- Lowercase equivalents use the corresponding lowercase codes (for example, ä Alt+0228, é Alt+0233, ñ Alt+0241, ö Alt+0246, ü Alt+0252).

- § (Alt+0167), ¶ (Alt+0182)

Method 2: Word/Outlook accent shortcuts (classic editor)
These work in Word and Outlook’s editor when supported:

- Acute: Ctrl+' then letter → á, é, í, ó, ú, ý, Á, É, Í, Ó, Ú, Ý
- Circumflex: Ctrl+Shift+^ then letter → â, ê, î, ô, û, Â, Ê, Î, Ô, Û

- Umlaut: Ctrl+Shift+: then letter → ä, ë, ï, ö, ü, ÿ, Ä, Ë, Ï, Ö, Ü, Ÿ
