Hello.

This is a question/consultation regarding saving videos and images in Windows 11.

When saving, I select "Save video (image) as" before saving or downloading.

Currently, the process is:

Video → Save video as → Downloads folder → Save to specified drive

This is how it works on my PC.

I would like to change this setting to:

Video → Save video as → Save to specified drive

Is it possible to save while ignoring the Downloads folder?

My main browsers are Firefox and Google Chrome.

Windows 11 Home 25H2001

Its possible to change the download location via browser. FireFox and chrome as well.

    Firefox :

    • Go to settings scroll down to File and applications.
    • there options save files to. here change your desired folder path to save.

Windows 11 itself does not provide a setting to bypass the Downloads folder in the browser “Save as” dialog and jump directly to a specific drive or folder.

However, Windows allows changing the default location where new personal files (including downloads) are saved at the system level. This does not remove the Save dialog, but it lets new content default to another drive instead of the system drive:

    1. Select Start > Settings > System > Storage.
    2. Select Advanced storage settings > Where new content is saved.
    3. For the relevant content types (for example, “New apps,” “New documents,” etc.), choose the preferred drive from the drop-down list.

For browser downloads specifically (Firefox, Chrome), the default download folder is controlled by each browser’s own settings, not by Windows File Explorer. Those browser-specific options are not covered in the provided Windows documentation.
