Hello -- I'm getting a yearly charge of $19.99, but don't remember what this is for. If you would let me know, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you -- Paul Jamieson

Can you go to your account https://account.live.com Sign in and go to Services & Subscription, do you see anything that matches the charges? If not, click on Order history instead and anything?

Micosoft lists some other scenarios you can explore: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/how-to-investigate-a-billing-charge-from-microsoft-398c5328-364c-d5e4-ea8f-f5ad60562a93

If you find the charges on YOUR account but you don't recognize making those purchase, for your privacy and security, billing matter cannot be discussed here, nor does anyone helping here have access to such data. You will need to contact support to get it handled. On your computer, launch the Get Help app from the start menu, then type in "Billing" as the keyword. On the next page, you can click on "Contact support" button. Then fill out a few more details and you will be directed to the page where you will have the option to chat with a live support agent.

If you cannot locate the charges on your Microsoft account at all, it's possible that your credit card has been compromised. This means unauthorized charges may have been made on someone else's Microsoft account using your credit card. In such a scenario, you should contact your credit card company to open a dispute case. Microsoft is unable to directly investigate issues related to someone else's account if you contact their Billing Support directly. However, once a dispute case is initiated by your credit card company, Microsoft can then respond specifically to those claims through the dispute process with the credit card company. This is the appropriate channel to resolve such issues, as it ensures proper verification and handling of the unauthorized charges.

The most likely explanation for an unrecognized yearly $19.99 Microsoft charge is an active subscription or past purchase tied to a Microsoft account, such as a Microsoft 365 or other Microsoft service with recurring billing enabled.

To identify exactly what the $19.99 charge is for:

    1. Go to the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard: Manage your payments.
    2. Sign in with the Microsoft account that might be associated with the card being charged.
    3. Locate the $19.99 transaction and select Investigate next to the charge. This will walk through the most common causes, such as:
      • A Microsoft subscription with recurring billing turned on.
      • A purchase made by a family member using the same card.
      • A previously declined charge that was processed later.
      • A pre-order or split order that has just been billed.
      • An in-app purchase from an app or game.

If the charge is related to a subscription and cancellation or a refund is needed:

    1. Check active subscriptions at Subscriptions to see which one matches the $19.99 amount and billing date.
    2. If the subscription was already cancelled but a charge still appeared, verify whether it was cancelled less than 2 days before the billing date, as charges can still occur in that case.
    3. To see detailed order information or print an invoice, sign in to account.microsoft.com/billing, select Payment & billing > Order history, refine by date, and open Order details for the relevant $19.99 charge.
    4. If a refund is desired, first cancel the subscription (if still active), then review eligibility using the refund guidance in the referenced article.

If the charge still cannot be recognized after using Investigate and checking order history, contact the bank or card issuer to review the transaction and, if appropriate, dispute or block further charges, and then follow the guidance in the Microsoft billing and refund articles.
