Using my gmail account, I can't get my Outlook 365 calendar to sync with my Google calendar. When I add or delete a calendar item in Outlook it syncs with the Google calendar, but when I add or delete a calendar item on my Google calendar is does not syn with Outlook 365.

If you wait a while (up to 30 min or more), does the calendar item sync? The Microsoft cloud server doesn't check for new items on google server constantly so there can be a delay before it shows up in Outlook. Deletions and additions on the Outlook side are pushed out as soon as created though.

If it doesn't sync after waiting 30 minutes, try removing the account and adding it back.

For two‑way sync between a Gmail account and Outlook 365 calendar, the account must be connected in a way that supports calendar synchronization, not just email (IMAP/POP).

    Key points and checks:

    1. Confirm how the Gmail account is added
      • If the Gmail account is added as IMAP or POP, only email will sync. Calendar and contacts will not sync in either direction.
      • Calendar sync requires using a connection type that supports calendar (for example, via the Microsoft Cloud sync in new Outlook clients, or via an Exchange ActiveSync–capable setup on supported apps/devices).
      • The article “Can't sync calendar and contacts with my phone or tablet” notes that IMAP and POP “are unable to sync calendar, contacts, etc. They can only sync email.”
    2. Use Outlook features that support non‑Microsoft calendars
      • For Outlook desktop, one option is to subscribe to the Google calendar using its iCal URL (read‑only or one‑way from Google to Outlook), as described in “Import calendars into Outlook.”
        • In Google Calendar, get the Secret address in iCal format.
        • In Outlook, use Home → Add Calendar → From Internet, paste the URL, and accept the subscription.
        • This gives one‑way sync from Google → Outlook (changes made in Google appear in Outlook; changes made in Outlook do not go back to Google for this subscribed calendar).
      • Alternatively, import/export .ics files for one‑time copies, but that will not keep calendars in sync.
    3. Understand current limitations and known issues
      • When using Microsoft Cloud sync for Google accounts (where supported), a copy of email, calendar, and contacts is synchronized between Google and Microsoft data centers. This is what enables richer calendar features with non‑Microsoft accounts in supported Outlook clients.
      • There are known behaviors and limits when syncing Google calendars to the Microsoft Cloud (for example, shared calendars behavior, visibility defaults, attachment support), but the basic two‑way sync should work only if the account is properly connected and cloud‑synced.
    4. Practical resolution path
      • If the Gmail account in Outlook 365 is currently configured as IMAP/POP, remove that profile and re‑add the account using the method that supports calendar sync in the new Outlook experience (where available) so that the account is synced to the Microsoft Cloud.
      • If using classic Outlook where full Google calendar two‑way sync is not available, use one of these instead:
        • Subscribe to the Google calendar via iCal URL for one‑way Google → Outlook updates.
        • Keep using Google Calendar web or app for editing, and treat Outlook’s view as read‑only.

Because Outlook is currently syncing only Outlook → Google and not Google → Outlook in this setup, the most likely cause is that the Gmail account is not connected via a calendar‑capable method (or is using a one‑way subscription). Re‑adding the account with Microsoft Cloud sync in a supported Outlook client, or subscribing to the Google calendar from Outlook using the iCal URL, are the supported options.
