Copilot not working in Powerpoint only

Hi, I upgraded from Microsoft 365 to microsoft 365 Premium on Mac to take advantage of CoPilot in the Office apps. Once I upgraded, logged out and logged back in, Excel and Word worked fine with the CoPilot icon appearing on the ribbon. With some effort I got Outlook to work but despite following all the fixes I am still not able to get Copilot working in Powerpoint. I went through all the steps suggested but no win with PowerPoint. Any help please?

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

If you haven't tried anything yet:

  • Make sure you're signed in with the same Microsoft account that the subscription is linked to.
  • Open PowerPoint app. > At the top of the screen, select Word (or the app name) in the menu bar. > Select About Word. > Click More Info… > Select "Refresh License".
  • After that, close any open documents and completely restart all Microsoft 365 apps so the license refresh can take effect.

If issue still persists:

If you haven't already, I’d suggest is to uninstall any existing Office apps on your Mac to avoid conflict:

Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:

  • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
  • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your license.
  • Find your Microsoft 365 Subscription and click the "Install".
  • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" option still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Regards,

John J.D.

Use the same Copilot troubleshooting steps that apply when the button is missing or disabled in any Microsoft 365 app, and focus them on PowerPoint:

    1. Confirm the correct account is active in PowerPoint
      • Open PowerPoint.
      • Check the account shown at the top of the window and under File > Account.
      • Ensure this is the account that has the Copilot-eligible subscription (for home users: Microsoft 365 Personal or Family, or Copilot Pro; for business users: Microsoft 365 Business Basic/Standard/Premium, E3, E5, F1, or F3 plus Microsoft 365 Copilot).
      • If another account is listed, sign it out so the licensed account is the primary one.
    2. Make sure PowerPoint is on the latest build
      • In PowerPoint, go to File > Account.
      • Use Update Options > Update Now (or follow the steps in Install Office updates) to ensure the latest Microsoft 365 build is installed.
    3. Refresh the license specifically in PowerPoint
      • In PowerPoint, go to File > Account.
      • Select Update License.
      • Close PowerPoint and any other Office apps, then reopen PowerPoint and check the Home tab for the Copilot button.
    4. Verify privacy settings in PowerPoint
      • Open any Microsoft 365 app (including PowerPoint).
      • Go to File > Account.
      • Under Account Privacy, select Manage Settings.
      • Turn on Experiences that analyze your content.
      • Scroll down and turn on All connected experiences.
      • Restart PowerPoint and check if Copilot appears.
    5. If using a business subscription, verify the update channel
      • In PowerPoint, go to File > Account.
      • Under Product Information, check the update channel.
      • If it shows Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel, Copilot features are not available in the desktop apps.
      • In that case, either use PowerPoint on the web (where Copilot should be available) or contact the organization’s admin/help desk to move the device to Current Channel or Monthly Enterprise Channel.
    6. If Copilot still appears only in other apps
      • Follow the same steps from the article “How to find and enable missing Copilot button in Microsoft 365 apps” explicitly in PowerPoint.
      • If the issue persists after these steps, contact the Microsoft 365 admin (for business accounts) to confirm Copilot is not blocked by policy and that the license is correctly assigned.
