I do not have the option to select the parenthesis for negative numbers in excel. I have tried changing the regional settings to the (1.1) option but when I return to the format option the parenthesis is not showing as an option. I am using Windows 11.

In Windows 11, Excel’s parentheses option for negative numbers depends on the Windows regional number format. If the option still does not appear in Excel after changing it, adjust the Windows setting as follows and then restart Excel:

    1. Close Excel completely.
    2. Open Control Panel (search for “Control Panel” from Start).
    3. Select Clock and Region > Region (or Change date, time, or number formats).
    4. On the Formats tab, select Additional settings.
    5. On the Numbers tab, set Negative number format to (1.1).
    6. On the Currency tab, set Negative currency format to ($1.1).
    7. Click OK, then OK again to save.
    8. Reopen Excel.
    9. In Excel, select the cells, press Ctrl+1, choose Number or Currency, and under Negative numbers the parentheses style should now be available.

If the parentheses option is still missing, verify that the Windows regional settings actually saved (repeat steps 2–6) and that no other regional format is overriding these values.
