Copilot Pro cannot be added to a Microsoft 365 Premium (work/school) account. Copilot Pro is a benefit of Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Premium subscriptions that are associated with a personal Microsoft account, and is intended for consumer use.
For work or school scenarios with Microsoft 365 Business or Enterprise (such as Microsoft 365 Business Premium or E5), Copilot capabilities are provided through Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses, not Copilot Pro.
If the goal is to use Copilot with work files while having a personal Microsoft 365 subscription (Personal, Family, or Premium), the supported pattern is:
- Ensure the personal Microsoft account has a Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Premium subscription (which includes Copilot benefits).
- Sign into the Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote) with both:
- The work account (for file access and enterprise data protection), and
- The personal Microsoft account (that has the Microsoft 365 Personal/Family/Premium subscription).
- Use Copilot on work files while signed in with multiple accounts. File access remains tied to the work account, and organization policies still apply.
Admins can control or disable this multi-account Copilot usage via cloud policy if required.
