Webcam not detected on HP 360 Envy

The webcam on our HP ENVY laptop stopped working in all apps. The camera is no longer listed in Device Manager even in hidden files. I have tried every fix suggested on all help sites including HP but none work. There is no button or slide or F key disabling it. It merely says Windows cannot detect a camera. I have checked and updated everything possible except could not find any webcam drivers available on Microsoft and HP. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Each properly installed and properly operating device should be presented in the Device manager regardless of a driver installation.

Your device is absent in Device manager, so it is either faulty or improperly connected. Was your PC disassembled (may be partially) or repaired recently?

And please check carefully all devices in Device manager, maybe there was a different driver installed, and the device is mentioned under improper name.

Try the following steps in order, focusing on getting Windows to see the camera hardware again.

    1. Confirm the camera is not disabled by a key or privacy cover
Even if it appears there is no key/slider, double‑check:
      • Inspect the bezel around the screen for a tiny physical privacy slider and move it fully open.
      • Press the function keys that commonly toggle the camera (for example, an F‑key with a camera icon, sometimes with Fn), as suggested in a similar case.
    2. Run the Windows camera troubleshooter (Windows 10/11)
      • Open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot (or System > Troubleshoot in newer builds) and run the camera troubleshooter, or use the Get Help app via the built‑in link:
Run the troubleshooter in Get Help
      • Let it complete and apply any fixes, then restart and test the Camera app.
    3. Force Windows to re‑detect the camera in Device Manager
Since the camera is not listed (even under View > Show hidden devices), force a rescan:
      1. Right‑click Start > Device Manager.
      2. On the Action menu, select Scan for hardware changes.
      3. If a camera appears under Cameras or Imaging devices, right‑click it > Properties > Driver tab > Uninstall Device, check Delete the driver software for this device, then OK.
      4. In Device Manager, again select Action > Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver automatically.
      5. Restart the PC and test the Camera app.
    4. Try switching to the in‑box UVC driver (if the camera reappears)
If the camera shows up after a scan but still does not work correctly:
      1. In Device Manager, locate the webcam under Cameras or Imaging devices.
      2. Right‑click the webcam > Update driver.
      3. Select Browse my computer for drivers.
      4. Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
      5. Choose USB Video Device and select Next.
      6. Close Device Manager and test the Camera app.
Note: the in‑box UVC driver may not support all advanced features (for example, Windows Hello face recognition), but it is useful to confirm basic camera functionality.
    5. Check privacy and app access settings (if the camera is detected again)
If Windows starts detecting the camera but apps still say it is unavailable:
      • Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
      • Ensure Camera access is turned on.
      • Ensure Let apps access your camera is turned on.
      • Turn on access for the specific apps (e.g., Camera, Teams).
      • For desktop apps (browsers, Teams desktop), ensure Allow desktop apps to access your camera is turned on.
    6. If the camera still never appears in Device Manager
After all scans and restarts, if there is still no entry under Cameras, Imaging devices, or Sound, video and game controllers, and no unknown device appears when scanning for hardware changes, this typically indicates a hardware‑level issue (for example, the internal camera module or its cable has failed). In that case:
      • Since HP’s own tools and drivers have already been tried, the next step is hardware service: contact HP support for a hardware diagnostic and possible repair or replacement of the camera module.
