How to get my dissapeared videos?

Hi,

I wanted to ask about my problem with the Snipping Tools function. I've recorded my video, but I'm not sure even when I didn't stop the video, it already stopped and it disappeared.
Thank you for your time.

Regards,

Nabilah

If the video recording somehow disappeared open File Explorer, then paste this into the address bar and press Enter:

    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.ScreenSketch_8wekyb3d8bbwe\TempState\Recordings

That is the folder where you may be able to find the temporary video file if it was not saved correctly.

Snipping Tool and similar Windows capture tools do not keep partial or failed recordings anywhere hidden; if a recording stops unexpectedly and no file is saved, it usually cannot be recovered. However, a few checks are still worth trying:

    1. Check the default save location
    • Open File Explorer.
    • Go to VideosCaptures (this is the default folder for many Windows screen recordings).
    • Sort by Date modified and look for MP4 or similar files created around the time of the recording.
    1. Check the Downloads folder If the recording was made through a browser-based tool (for example, Clipchamp or another web recorder), the raw recording file can sometimes be saved to Downloads:
    • Open File ExplorerDownloads.
    • Sort by Date modified and look for recent video files (e.g., .mp4, .webm).
    1. Check the Recycle Bin If a recording file was created and then deleted:
    • Open the Recycle Bin on the desktop.
    • Look for recently deleted video files and restore them if found.
    1. If the recording was done in Clipchamp If the recording was actually done via Clipchamp (which is integrated in Windows 11 for some users), there are a few additional places to check:
    • For personal Clipchamp accounts, original webcam or screen recordings are also saved as WebM files in the Downloads folder when selecting Save and edit in the recorder.
    • For work/school Clipchamp accounts, media files used in projects are stored in the project’s Assets folder in OneDrive/SharePoint, and exported videos are stored in the project’s Exports folder in OneDrive. If the MP4 is not there, the project must be exported again.
    • If original media files were deleted, check the system’s Recycle Bin and, for phone-originated videos, the phone’s Recently Deleted folder.
    1. When recovery is not possible If no file appears in any of these locations, and there is no Clipchamp project or backup, the recording is not stored anywhere else and cannot be recovered. In that case, a new recording must be made.

To reduce the risk in the future:

    • Confirm the save folder in the recording tool’s settings before starting.
    • After stopping a recording, wait until the save/export process completes and verify the file exists in File Explorer.
