How can I upgrade all of my Word 2007 documents into the current Word 2024

Word 2024 can open Word 2007 documents directly, and they will initially open in Compatibility Mode. To “upgrade” them, each document must be converted to the newer Word format from within Word 2024.

To convert an individual Word 2007 document in Word 2024:

1. Open the .doc or older .docx file in Word 2024.
2. Check the title bar: it will show “Compatibility Mode” if the file is in an older format.
3. Select File > Info.
4. In the Inspect Document section, select Check for Issues > Check Compatibility if needed to see which mode the document is in.
5. Then use Convert (or save the file as a new .docx) to upgrade it to the current format.

Notes:

• Compatibility Mode temporarily disables new or enhanced Word features so the document can still be edited by people using earlier versions of Word.
• Converting to the newer format enables all current Word features, but people using older versions may have difficulty editing some newer features.
• This process must be repeated for each document; the context does not describe a bulk one-click conversion tool.
