I am unable to access the “Design Ideas” option in my PowerPoint presentation.

Use the following steps to enable and use the “Design Ideas” (Design Suggestions/Designer) feature in PowerPoint 2024 with Microsoft 365:

1. Confirm subscription eligibility
   • Design Ideas/Designer is available only to Microsoft 365 subscribers on desktop.
   • It is not available with Office 365 Germany.
   • If upgraded from a non‑subscription Office version to Microsoft 365, a reinstall may be required (see step 5).
2. Turn on Office connected experiences
   1. Open PowerPoint.
   2. Select File > Account.
   3. Under Account Privacy, select Manage Settings.
   4. Under Optional connected experiences, select Turn on optional connected experiences.
3. Enable automatic design suggestions in PowerPoint
   1. In PowerPoint, go to the File tab.
   2. Select Options.
   3. On the General tab, under Designer/Design Suggestions, select:
      • Automatically show me suggestions
      • Automatically show me suggestions when I create a new presentation
   4. Select OK.
4. Show and use Design Ideas on a slide
   1. Open a presentation and select a slide.
   2. On the Design tab, select Design Suggestions (or Design Ideas depending on build).
   3. The Design Suggestions pane opens on the right.
   4. Browse the suggested layouts and select one; the slide updates immediately.
   5. To undo a change, press Ctrl+Z.
5. If the Design Suggestions/Design Ideas button is missing
   • Verify again that:
     • The subscription is Microsoft 365 (not a one‑time purchase without Designer).
     • Connected experiences are turned on (step 2).
   • If previously using a perpetual Office version and then moved to Microsoft 365 subscription:
     1. Uninstall the old Office from the PC.
     2. Reinstall Microsoft 365 so subscriber features (including Designer) are enabled.
   • If PowerPoint was just installed and the button is still missing, close PowerPoint completely and restart the app.
   • If using an organizational account, Designer may be disabled by policy; contact the IT administrator to enable Designer/Design Suggestions.
6. Situations where Design Ideas may not appear on a slide
   • If more than one person is actively editing the same slide (co‑authoring), Designer will not show suggestions for that slide until only one person is editing it.
   • Designer cannot suggest ideas for slides that contain manually drawn shapes or text boxes; use placeholders for text instead.

Once these settings are in place, Design Ideas should be available via Design > Design Suggestions and will automatically offer layouts when content (such as images or text in placeholders) is added.
