How to prevent nested tables from merging when "tab" pressed

We have an internally-created Word document with nested tables. After the most recent Word update, when curser is in the nested table and tab key is pressed, the two tables merge, distorting all formatting. The only work-around I've found is to NOT nest the tables, which basically works, but not as well. Anyone else having this issue / found a fix?

In a quick test, I was not able to reproduce what you describe. Could you provide a specific example on how to reproduce the problem? For example, does it matter in which cell the nested table resides, etc.?

It would be even better if you could share a sample document in which the problem can be observed.
