My laptop no longer shares to tv via HDMI lead.
When I did Win+P to open the Projection window I got " Your PC can't project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card"
Is this the problem and which driver do I need to update?

Windows for home | Windows 10 | PC projection

    this fixed the problem

"Press the Windows key and type cmd. Right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator." In the Command Prompt window, type powercfg -restoredefaultschemes and press Enter. Restart your computer and check if the Sleep option is available."

Ran Win+P again and it did not give an error and I was able to restore Duplicate screens. So simple, and I did not have to do anything scary like deleting drivers! No idea what caused the problem, but so glad it was fixed so simply.

Usually this is caused by a corrupt graphics driver.

    1

Right click your Start Button and open Device Manager.

    Expand the Display Adapters' section.

Please provide a screenshot of that full Device Manager window.

    2

Click your Start Button, then just type msinfo and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting System Information window.

The message indicates a problem with the display/graphics driver that controls HDMI output. The driver that needs attention is the display adapter (graphics card) driver, not the TV or HDMI cable.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Check projection setting
    • Press Windows logo key + P and make sure Extend or Duplicate is selected (not PC screen only).
    • If the error still appears, continue with driver steps.
    1. Update the display adapter driver
    2. Press and hold (or right-click) the Start button and select Device Manager.
    3. Expand Display adapters.
    4. Press and hold (or right-click) the display adapter listed (for example, Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA) and select Properties.
    5. Go to the Driver tab and select Update Driver.
    6. Select Search automatically for updated driver software and complete the wizard.
    7. Roll back the display adapter driver (if the problem started after an update)
    8. In Device Manager, expand Display adapters.
    9. Press and hold (or right-click) the display adapter and select Properties.
    10. On the Driver tab, select Roll Back Driver if the button is available.
      • If Roll Back Driver is not available, skip to the reinstall step.
    11. Reinstall the display adapter driver
    12. In Device Manager, expand Display adapters.
    13. Press and hold (or right-click) the display adapter and select Uninstall device.
    14. Check Attempt to remove the driver for this device (if shown), then select Uninstall.
    15. Restart the PC if prompted.
    16. After restart, open Device Manager again, expand Display adapters.
    17. Press and hold (or right-click) the display adapter and select Update driver.
    18. Select Search automatically for updated driver software and finish the installation.

If the issue persists after these steps, also try a different HDMI cable and HDMI port on the TV, and test the TV with another device to rule out hardware issues.
