The free upgrade from Windows 7 SP1 to Windows 10 ended long ago. That means you will have to buy Windows 10 and do a clean install.

However, Microsoft stopped selling Windows 10 on January 31, 2023, and by now, more than 3 years later, there is no place we can recommend to purchase a legitimate copy of Retail edition Windows 10.

Moreover, it seems senseless to spend the money and time to clean install an operating system that will lose all support in less than six months.

So in all honesty, there is no worthwhile solution for your question.

To upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 10, install the required Windows 7 update, prepare the system, then run the Windows 10 setup using a valid Windows 10 license.

    1. Install the Windows 7 update that enables upgrades
      • On the Windows 7 PC (must be Windows 7 Service Pack 1), install the update that enables upgrading to a later version of Windows.
      • Get it via Windows Update:
        • Open Windows Update.
        • Check for updates and install the update described in “Update that enables you to upgrade from Windows 7 to a later version of Windows.”
      • Do not install a language pack after this update; otherwise, the update must be reinstalled.
    2. Prepare Windows 7 for upgrade
      • Uninstall nonessential or outdated software that might block the upgrade:
        • Go to Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features.
        • Select unneeded programs and choose Uninstall.
      • Ensure there is enough free disk space on the system drive:
        • Open File Explorer (Windows Explorer in Windows 7).
        • Select Computer and check available space on the system drive.
    3. Run Windows 10 setup
      • Use Windows 10 installation media or the official setup tool and start the upgrade from within Windows 7 (not by booting from the media) so files and apps can be kept, if supported.
      • Follow the on‑screen instructions to choose whether to keep files and apps.
    4. Activate Windows 10
      • After the upgrade completes, Windows 10 should be activated using a valid Windows 10 product key or digital license.
      • If activation errors occur, use the guidance in “Get help with Windows upgrade and installation errors” and “Get help with Windows activation errors.”

If upgrading specifically to Windows 10 Pro from a Home edition of Windows 10 after the initial upgrade, use the edition upgrade paths (product key, command-line tools like changepk.exe, or purchase via Microsoft Store) described in the Windows edition upgrade documentation.
