Word only allows read-only access with Microsoft 365 Basic account

Changed my account from Microsoft 365 (full access) to a 365 Basic account as I only require Word and Excel. Since the change any word document I access is now read only including documents sent from a third party for review.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Word on my MacBook but the same problem occurs and the only solution I get from the application is to buy the full access Microsoft 365 set of applications.

Microsoft 365 Basic is for 100GB OneDrive storage only. It doesn't come with the desktop version of office apps.

You can use the web version for free in this case via https://www.office.com > Apps.
