How do I suspend Defender updates?

I'm not a huge techie so please be gentle... :-)

My computer runs Defender updates and reboots when I don't want it to, in particular when I leave it for a while with files and programs in suspense so that I can come back to where I was previously working. The reboot is very frustrating as it causes me to lose that data and have to reopen programs, files, etc.

I have paused Windows updates so as to avoid this problem, but now Defender seems to have taken over and I can't find a way to suspend those updates as well. Can this be done in a way that's fairly simple?

    Hi Mark,

If you have admin access to your pc you might be able to use the Set-MpPreference command to disable it as shown here:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1035699/disabling-windows-defender-auto-updates

However if this is controlled by your administrator you'll need to talk to them to make the change or they will overwrite your command.

    Good luck.
