Can't receive emails from Yahoo

I stopped receiving emails from yahoo email yesterday afternoon, 5/15/26. My brother started receiving mailer daemons emails when he sent me email with the message "Can't receive emails from Yahoo". I then tried sending from my yahoo account and received the same error message. I have enough space on my Outlook account so that's not the issue.

    Hello

I think there's something going on Microsoft's end right now. I am seeing many people reporting that they cannot receive emails from Yahoo or Gmail users. You are not the only one. Earlier this week it happened with iCloud users, but it finally recovered. Hopefully this is a similar situation. There's no official announcement on Microsoft side at the moment.

Because storage has already been checked, focus on Outlook.com–specific receive issues and the Yahoo sender side.

    1. Confirm the problem scope
      • Ask multiple Yahoo senders (including the brother and the Yahoo account owned) to send test messages.
      • Check whether messages from non‑Yahoo senders arrive normally. If only Yahoo messages fail, it is likely a sender‑side or filtering issue specific to that domain.
    2. Check Outlook.com inbox, Other, and Junk
      • Sign in to Outlook.com in a browser.
      • Check Inbox and the Other tab to ensure messages are not being auto‑sorted.
      • Check the Junk Email folder. If Yahoo messages appear there, right‑click them and choose Mark as not junk to return them to Inbox and train the filter.
      • Review Junk Email settings and ensure Yahoo addresses or domains are not blocked and that any safe senders list includes the Yahoo addresses if needed. Use the Junk Email settings link from the article if necessary.
    3. Check rules, filters, and forwarding
      • In Outlook.com settings, review Rules and delete or disable any rule that might move or delete messages from Yahoo or all new mail (for example, rules diverting mail to RSS or other folders).
      • Check Forwarding settings and turn off forwarding if it is enabled unexpectedly, as this can cause mail to be delivered elsewhere instead of the Outlook.com inbox.
    4. Verify account health and sign‑in
      • Since storage is sufficient, verify the Outlook.com account is not blocked or in a restricted state. If there are sign‑in issues, use the Microsoft account sign‑in helper.
      • If one specific device is not showing new mail but Outlook.com on the web does, remove and re‑add that device’s partnership with the mailbox as described in the sync‑issues guidance.
    5. Sender‑side checks (Yahoo accounts)
      • Because the brother is receiving mailer‑daemon (bounce) messages when sending to the Outlook.com address, the Yahoo side is getting a non‑delivery response.
      • Ask senders to review the bounce details and, if no obvious cause is shown, have them follow Sender Support in Outlook.com so they can check whether their messages to Outlook.com are being blocked or throttled and how to remediate.
    6. If the error text mentions connection to recipient server
      • If the bounce from Yahoo includes wording like “The recipient server did not accept our requests to connect,” follow the guidance to update the Outlook.com email address/alias configuration as described in the alias article.
    7. If none of the above resolves it
      • Use the Outlook.com interactive troubleshooter from the article to step through additional automated checks.
      • If the issue persists, use the Help option in Outlook.com (or the dedicated support link in the article) while signed in, describe that only Yahoo senders receive NDRs, and proceed to Still need help?Yes to contact support.
