The most common reasons for seeing “Not eligible for Microsoft Azure Sponsorship” when trying to redeem the $1,000 startup credits are:
- Not a new Azure customer The $1,000 startup credit offer requires being a new Azure customer with no prior Azure account or subscription. If there is already any Azure subscription associated with the Microsoft Account being used, the offer is not available.
- Using the wrong type of account The startup credit offer must be redeemed with a personal Microsoft Account (MSA), not a work or school (Entra ID) account. If signed in with a work/school account, the system will show an eligibility error. Switching to an MSA and trying again is required.
- Country/region not supported The offer is only available in countries/regions where this Azure startup offer is available. If the MSA’s country/region is not in the supported list, the sponsorship cannot be redeemed.
- Existing startup credits already redeemed Startup credits cannot be transferred between accounts and are tied to the MSA used during redemption. If credits were already redeemed previously on that MSA, a new sponsorship cannot be created for the same account.
If the environment meets all eligibility conditions (new Azure customer, personal MSA, supported country/region) and the error persists, Azure support can be used to troubleshoot, as the $1,000 startup credit offer includes a Basic support plan for the Azure Sponsorship subscription.
