Hello, I'm using a system with an OEM H61 chipset motherboard and a third-generation i7 processor. There are 5 optional updates shared via Windows Update. Will I experience any problems if I install these drivers? DxDiag.txt

Hi,

In this case, there will be no problem and it is recommended to install, but you can keep the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer, I say in question since the downloads that come from Windows Update come from the same hardware ID, but I prefer to use the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer in matters of compatibility.

I believe that these 5 drivers are the motherboard chipset and the USB controller, if your PC is working correctly, there is no driver failure in the device manager, you can ignore this update, however, it is recommended to keep the latest drivers.

Optional drivers delivered via Windows Update are designed to be compatible with the specific hardware and Windows version in use. For Windows 10, recommended drivers are installed automatically, while optional drivers (like the Intel System/USB entries shown) must be selected manually and are not installed by default.

For an OEM H61 motherboard and 3rd‑generation Intel i7, these Intel System/USB optional drivers are typically chipset‑related updates. Installing them from Windows Update is a supported and preferred method when updates are offered, because:

    • Windows Update only offers drivers that match the device and OS.
    • Optional drivers can provide fixes or improved compatibility for system devices (chipset, USB, etc.).

If there is concern about potential issues, a cautious approach is:

    1. Create a system restore point before installing the optional drivers.
    2. Install the optional drivers via Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View optional updates and select the Intel entries.
    3. Restart the PC after installation.
    4. If problems occur, use System Restore or roll back the driver from Device Manager.

If Windows Update does not provide a needed driver or if issues persist, the alternative is to obtain drivers directly from the hardware manufacturer’s support site and follow their installation instructions.
