Hello,

We recently published a free desktop app on the Microsoft Store, but the "Download" button (Store Web Installer) does not appear on the apps.microsoft.com product page. Only the "View in Microsoft Store" button is shown.

App details:

  • Product ID: 9N0SKCBBPLHQ
  • App name: 집이음 (Beta)
  • Package format: MSIX (x64 + arm64)
  • Price: Free
  • Capabilities: runFullTrust
  • Market: South Korea (Korea only)
  • Discoverability: "Make this product available but not discoverable in the Store" → "Direct link only"
  • First published: May 18, 2026
  • Latest submission: May 20, 2026
  • Store page: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9N0SKCBBPLHQ

What we expect:

According to the Store Web Installer documentation, the download button should be available for "Free packaged MSIX content." Our app meets all documented requirements.

What we want to achieve:

We want users to download and install our app directly from the web page via the Store Web Installer stub (.exe), without needing to open the Microsoft Store app.

Questions:

  1. Why is the Web Installer download button not appearing for our app?
  2. Does the "Direct link only" discoverability setting affect Web Installer availability?
  3. Does the Web Installer also support APPX packages, or is it MSIX-only?
  4. Is there a propagation delay after first publishing before the Web Installer becomes available?

Thank you.

    📩 Improved Support Request

Subject: Missing “Download (Store Web Installer)” Button for Published Free MSIX App

    Hello Microsoft Store Support Team,

We recently published a free desktop application on the Microsoft Store, but the “Download” (Store Web Installer) button is not appearing on the product page.

Instead, only the “View in Microsoft Store” button is shown.

    App Details:

    • Product ID: 9N0SKCBBPLHQ
    • App name: 집이음 (Beta)
    • Package format: MSIX (x64 + arm64)
    • Price: Free
    • Capabilities: runFullTrust
    • Market availability: Korea only
    • Discoverability setting: “Make this product available but not discoverable in the Store” → Direct link only
    • First published: May 18, 2026
    • Latest submission: May 20, 2026
    • Store page: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9N0SKCBBPLHQ

    Expected behavior:

Based on Store documentation, free MSIX apps should show a Web Installer download option on the product page.

    Issue:

The Web Installer download button is not displayed.

    Questions:

    1. Why is the Web Installer download button not appearing for this app?
    2. Does the “Direct link only” discoverability setting affect Web Installer availability?
    3. Does the Web Installer support APPX packages, or is it limited to MSIX?
    4. Is there a propagation delay after publishing before the Web Installer becomes available?

    Thank you for your support.

    Kind regards, [Your Name]

💡 Now the likely answers (important)

    1. Why the download button is missing

    Most likely reasons:

    • The app is set to “Direct link only (not discoverable)”
    • The Store UI often suppresses web install CTAs for non-discoverable apps
    • The page defaults to “View in Store” only behavior

👉 In many cases, Web Installer only appears when the app is:

    • Publicly discoverable, OR
    • Fully indexed in Store metadata services

    Yes — very likely.

    This setting can:

    • Prevent search indexing
    • Restrict storefront UI features
    • Limit installation entry points to Store app only

So it can absolutely remove the web installer button.

    3. MSIX vs APPX support

    • Web Installer primarily supports MSIX / modern packaged apps
    • APPX is technically legacy but still sometimes supported
    • Microsoft Store increasingly standardizes on MSIX

👉 So: MSIX is correct and preferred.

    4. Propagation delay?

    Yes, but:

    • Usually a few hours to 48 hours
    • In some cases up to several days for regional stores (like KR-only apps)

But delay alone is less likely than the discoverability setting issue.

    🔥 Most likely root cause

👉 Your app being set to “Direct link only / not discoverable” is the main blocker

    That setting commonly disables:

    • Web install button
    • Store web acquisition flows
    • Some preview UI featuresHere’s a clear, structured, and more “Microsoft support–ready” version of your message, plus direct answers to your questions so you understand what’s likely happening.
