Had Office 365 on an older obsolete machine but purchased Office 2024 along with my new machine. Despite my best efforts my new machine has Office 365 installed. I stopped After backing up my my data files I deleted Office 365 from my new machine. I canceled my Office 365 subscription. I reinstalled my already paid for Office 2024 software. The list of applications in setup tells me that Office 2024 is installed and Office 365 is not installed.

Now I cannot find Office 2024 in my Start menu/list of available programs or as an icon on my Start screen. I have gone to Word and signed in on my account. Word says I am in Office 2024. The Outlook portion of Office 2024 is nowhere to be found. Where in the world is it? How do I activate it?

By the way Microsoft, stop writing "Microsoft 365 and Office" during this problem. It is Microsoft 365 or Office 2024, not both!!!!! Very confusing!

Thanks.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Where did you purchase the license? Was it from the Microsoft website or a third-party seller?
    2. What is the exact product name you bought?
    3. Can you also check this: https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in. Do you see the specific product license listed there?

Outlook from Office 2024 is part of the same Office suite as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. When Office 2024 is correctly installed and activated, Outlook should be installed with it and appear in the Start menu like the other apps.

Based on the described behavior (Word shows Office 2024, but Outlook is missing from Start), the most reliable way to fix this is to completely remove any remaining Microsoft 365/Office remnants and then reinstall Office 2024 cleanly:

    1. Fully uninstall existing Office/Microsoft 365
      • Use the official uninstall troubleshooter, which removes Microsoft 365 and perpetual Office versions (except Office 2024 itself) from Windows.
      • From the article, select the Uninstall tool and run it on the same Windows PC where Office is installed.
      • Follow the prompts and restart the computer when asked.
      • If anything remains, follow the guidance to manually uninstall Office.
    2. Reinstall Office 2024
      • After the restart, follow the steps in the Office install article to install Office 2024 again on the PC.
      • Make sure to sign in with the account or use the product key that belongs to Office 2024 (not the old Microsoft 365 subscription).
    3. Verify Outlook is installed and visible
      • After installation completes, open the Start menu and scroll the app list under Microsoft Office or directly under Outlook.
      • Outlook should now appear alongside Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
      • If Outlook still does not appear, repeat the uninstall tool and reinstall steps, as leftover components from Microsoft 365 can block proper installation.

This process ensures that any Microsoft 365 components that might be hiding or conflicting with the Office 2024 Outlook installation are removed, and that the perpetual Office 2024 suite (including Outlook) is installed cleanly.
