Because the Xbox profile is a Microsoft account, the only way to use it on the new console is to recover that Microsoft account. If the standard password reset already failed with “didn’t meet the requirements,” the remaining options are limited to the official recovery tools.

Use these steps in order:

1. Run the Sign-in Helper
   • Go to the Sign-in Helper tool: Sign-in Helper.
   • Enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name that might be tied to the old Xbox profile.
   • The tool will check for problems and either guide through reset steps or direct to recovery options.
2. Try standard account recovery
   • If the username and password have stopped working, use the Recover your account flow: Recover your account.
   • Make sure the correct domain is used (for example, @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, or country-specific like @outlook.co.uk).
   • If the email isn’t recognized, try any other alias or phone number that might have been added to that account.
3. Use the Microsoft account recovery form
   • If normal reset still fails, fill out the account recovery form as completely as possible. Guidance is here: Help with the Microsoft account recovery form.
   • Before filling it out:
     • Ensure there is another working email address that can receive messages about the recovery request.
     • Gather as much information as possible about how that account was used (old passwords, Xbox usage, Outlook/Hotmail usage, etc.). The more accurate detail provided, the better the chance of success.
   • For Xbox specifically, be ready to provide:
     • The Xbox console hardware ID that was used frequently with that account.
     • Any other details about Xbox usage that the form asks for.
4. If recovery still fails
   • If the recovery form is rejected and the security info on the account has been changed or removed, there is no supported way for support agents to override the process or manually restore access. Support cannot bypass the recovery form or send custom reset links.
   • In that case, the old Microsoft/Xbox account cannot be recovered, and a new Microsoft account/Xbox profile must be used going forward.
