My audio settings are suddenly linked to "Don't Allow." I tried to change to "Allow" but it does not work. How can I fix this?

Use Windows 11’s sound and privacy settings to re‑enable audio access and change any “Don’t allow” setting back to “Allow.”

    1. Check that speakers/mic aren’t disabled
      1. Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      2. Under Output, select your speakers, then select Device properties.
      3. Make sure the Disable check box is cleared for the output device.
      4. Under Input, select your microphone, choose Device properties, and again ensure Disable is cleared.
    2. Set the correct default audio device
      1. In Settings > System > Sound, under Output, select the device you want to use. Selecting it sets it as the default.
      2. If an external monitor without speakers is selected, switch to your actual speakers or headphones.
    3. Fix microphone privacy “Don’t allow” settings
      1. Select Start > Settings > Privacy & security.
      2. Under App permissions, select Microphone.
      3. Turn Microphone access On.
      4. Turn Let apps access your microphone On.
      5. If the issue is with a specific app, scroll down under Let apps access your microphone and turn that app’s toggle On (from “Don’t allow” to Allow).
    4. If using Microsoft 365 or Teams in a browser If “Don’t allow” appears in the browser bar for microphone:
      1. Select the lock or microphone icon in the browser address bar.
      2. Change Microphone permission from Block/Don’t allow to Allow or Always allow for the site hosting Microsoft 365 or Teams.
      3. Refresh the page and test audio again.

If the audio device still shows as not allowed or muted after these steps, run the Windows audio troubleshooter from Settings > System > Sound and follow its recommendations.

    Hi!

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Can you exactly tell me where does this error appear? Can I ask as well what device are you using including your headphone/headset.
