Hi Team.

Every time I Flag an email in Classic Outlook, they appear multiple times in the task pane - most of the time three times. Has now become a very extensive list and wondering if can get some assistance in how to just show one flagged email iteration? Thanks in advance.

My Version: Microsoft® Outlook® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2605 Build 16.0.20026.20076) 64-bit

Update: SOLVED. Realised we use gmail imap in Outlook and it's show same flagged email task for inbox, important and starred folders. Have unsubscribed these folders which has fixed it.

    Hi Kimberley Woon,

Thank you for the update, and I’m glad to hear the issue has been resolved.

Your explanation is also helpful for others who may see flagged Gmail items repeated in the Outlook task pane. In this case, the duplicate entries were related to Gmail IMAP folders such as Inbox, Important, and Starred showing the same flagged item in more than one subscribed folder. Unsubscribing from the extra IMAP folders was a practical way to prevent the same flagged email task from appearing multiple times.

I hope this helps other users who encounter the same behavior.

Flagged emails showing multiple times in the task pane in Classic Outlook is typically caused by conflicts between Outlook tasks and Microsoft To Do synchronization.

This behavior matches a known issue where Outlook saves multiple drafts/versions of a task, resulting in conflicting items and duplicate entries. The issue has been addressed with a client-side fix from the Microsoft To Do team.

To resolve or mitigate the problem:

    1. Make sure Outlook and Microsoft 365 apps are fully updated
      • In Classic Outlook, go to File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now.
      • Install any available updates so the latest To Do/Outlook fixes are applied.
    2. Clean up existing conflicting task items
      • Open the Tasks view in Outlook.
      • Look for tasks that correspond to the flagged emails and show as duplicates or conflicts.
      • Open the affected task; if an info-bar appears saying there are other versions (conflicts), choose which version to keep and delete the others.
    3. If the issue persists after updating
      • Temporarily disable Microsoft To Do integration (for example, sign out of To Do or stop using the Flagged Email list there) and observe whether new duplicates stop appearing in Outlook’s task pane.
      • After confirming stability, re-enable To Do and continue monitoring.

If duplicates continue even after updates and cleanup, collect screenshots of the task pane showing the triplicate items and raise the issue via Outlook or Microsoft 365 support channels for further investigation, as it may indicate a remaining sync conflict specific to the environment.
