Cannot Add or Activate Claude Add-in in any of the Office365 Apps

My personal Microsoft account is being blocked from installing Office add-ins with a 'contact your administrator' error, even though it's a personal account on my own laptop. I think it may be linked to an old organization tenant. Please check for and remove any tenant association.

    Hello,

I believe this may be a widespread issue. I am seeing reports from users in different locales experiencing the same problem. It seems to affect add-ins in general when using the desktop version of the app.

I am experiencing the same issue on my end as well. I have not found any official Microsoft announcement about this yet, but at this point, it does not appear to be something you can fix locally. We may need to wait for Microsoft to address it on their end.

As a temporary workaround, you can sign out first, then install the add in. It should let you install that way. You might have to do this every time you launch the app though.

The tenant association cannot be checked or removed. However, the issue can be mitigated locally by clearing organizational sign-in traces and ensuring that Office is using only the personal Microsoft account.

Follow these steps on the Windows device where the Office apps are installed:

    1. Remove any work or school account association
      • Open SettingsAccountsAccess work or school (briefcase icon).
      • If any organization or work/school account is listed, select it and choose Disconnect.
    2. Clear cached organizational credentials
      • Open Control PanelCredential ManagerWindows Credentials.
      • Remove any entries that reference an organization/work account or tenant (for example, entries showing an org domain or onmicrosoft.com).
    3. Clear local AAD and Office auth caches
      • Press Windows + R, paste each of the following paths one at a time, press Enter, and delete all contents of each folder (skip files that cannot be deleted):
        • %LocalAppData%\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe
        • %LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin_cw5n1h2txyewy
        • %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\OneAuth
        • %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\TokenBroker
        • %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\IdentityCache
      • Restart the computer.
    4. Sign out of Office and sign back in with the personal account only
      • Open any Office app (for example, Word).
      • Select the profile icon/name at the top and Sign out of all accounts.
      • Close the app, reopen it, and sign in using only the personal Microsoft account that has the Microsoft 365 subscription (if applicable).
    5. Try add-in installation/activation again
      • In Excel/Word/PowerPoint on Windows, go to File > Get Add-ins or Home > Add-ins.
      • Use My Add-ins or the Store to install/activate the desired add-in.

If an ADD-IN INFORMATION banner still appears saying that Microsoft 365 is configured to prevent individual acquisition or execution of Office Store add-ins, this indicates a policy applied in a Microsoft 365 tenancy. In that case, the account is still governed by an organization tenant, and an administrator of that tenant must change the add-ins policy. For such tenancy-level configuration issues, see the guidance in Errors when Office add-ins start referenced from the troubleshooting article.

Note: Any actual tenant reconfiguration or removal of tenant association must be performed by a tenant administrator or Microsoft support; it cannot be done from the client side alone.
