Connect the USB drive to your PC.

    1

Right click your Start Button and open Disk Management.

Expand the bottom pane so all drives are visible in that pane.

Please provide a screenshot of that window.

    2

Right click your Start Button and open Device Manager.

    Expand the Disk Drives section.

Please provide a screenshot of that full Device Manager window.

USB drivers for Windows 10 are included with the operating system and are normally updated through Windows Update, not downloaded manually.

To address a suspected USB driver issue where a USB drive is not visible:

    1. Check for Windows Updates
      • Open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
      • Select Check for updates and install any available updates.
      • Restart the PC and reconnect the USB drive.
    2. Reinstall the USB device/driver via Device Manager
      • Right‑click Start and select Device Manager.
      • Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
      • For each USB Root Hub or related USB controller that might be associated with the port, right‑click and select Uninstall device.
      • Also expand Disk drives and Portable Devices and uninstall the entry corresponding to the USB drive if present.
      • Restart the PC; Windows will reinstall the USB drivers automatically.
    3. Check for known USB driver issues after updates
      • Some Windows 10 updates can remove or affect USB device drivers. Microsoft provides a workaround for cases where USB device drivers are removed unexpectedly after Windows 10 updates. If this scenario matches (USB devices stopped working after a specific update), follow the guidance in the referenced article to prevent the update reliability tool from removing USB drivers.
    4. If the USB device is a phone or media device (MTP)
      • If the missing “USB drive” is actually a phone or media device using Media Transfer Protocol (MTP), there was a known issue with an incorrect WPD/MTP driver that blocked connections. Microsoft released updates (for various Windows 10 versions) that automatically remove this incorrect driver. Ensure Windows Update is fully up to date so that the fix is installed.

If the USB drive still does not appear after these steps, test the drive on another PC to confirm the drive itself is working.
