DPC Watchdog Violation BSOD every time a USB 3.0 external expansion hub is connected

Hi guys, I needed more ports for my gaming rigs, so I bought an unpowered USB 3.0 hub array. The exact second I plug the hub into any native USB slot on my tower case, my computer blue screens instantly with the stop code DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION. It doesn't even give me time to look at drivers in Device Manager. Is it an internal power draw surge issue?

    Hi Isabella Brown,

Plugging in the unpowered USB hub causes a sudden power draw (voltage drop) on your motherboard. This electrical spike freezes the Windows USB controller driver (USBXHCI.SYS). Because the driver hangs and refuses to release processor time, the Windows kernel triggers a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION (Bug Check 0x133) blue screen to protect your hardware from damage. To fix,

1/ Download and install the latest motherboard chipset drivers and UEFI/BIOS from the manufacturer's website to improve power regulation. Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings. Expand USB settings and set USB selective suspend setting to Disabled. This ensures a constant voltage to your USB ports.

If the blue screen persists, the unpowered hub is drawing too much initial current for your motherboard's safety limits. You will need to replace it with a powered USB hub that plugs into a wall outlet.
