A desktop publishing application from Microsoft that focuses on page layout and graphic design.
To create PDFs of 5x7 greeting cards from Publisher and avoid the automatic conversion to Word, use Publisher’s own PDF export instead of opening the file through Word.
Steps in Publisher (Microsoft 365 / newer versions):
- Open the .pub greeting card in Publisher.
- Select File > Export.
- Choose Create PDF/XPS Document and then select Create PDF/XPS.
- In File name, enter the PDF name.
- In Save as type, choose PDF.
- Select Options and pick the quality:
- Minimum Size – for online viewing only.
- Standard – for email/desktop printing.
- High Quality Printing – for high‑quality prints.
- Commercial Press – for professional printing.
- Select OK, then Publish.
Alternative path via Save As:
- With the Publisher file open, select File > Save As (or Save a Copy).
- Choose the folder where the PDF should be saved.
- In Save as type, select PDF (*.pdf).
- Optionally select Options to adjust picture resolution and non‑printing information.
- Select Save.
If the file is opening in Word instead of Publisher, ensure the .pub file is opened directly in Publisher (not from Word’s File > Open) and that the default app for .pub files in Windows is set to Publisher.
For live help (phone or chat), use Microsoft Support channels for Microsoft 365/Office; support contact options depend on region and subscription and are available from the main Microsoft Support site.
