You update your Legal name on your Learn profile under Settings

    https://learn.microsoft.com/users/me/settings

If you have an exam booked, you will be shown a message and link to contact Credentials support

    Hi there!

For those who are also in the soup of changing your legal name for your Microsoft Learn account, I've been in this rabbit hole for a while :)

Yes, you can change the name in "Settings" and "Save", which then tells you "Your legal name change request will require further review. Please contact Credential Support to modify your legal name."

The link mentioned there redirects to a support[.]serviceshub[.]microsoft[.]com[/]supportforbusiness URL which then redirects to Engage Center.

There are no categories for Microsoft Learn, Credential support, changing your name, nothing, so good luck. I've not been able to find a suitable category and have tried (believe me, I've tried very hard) to submit a request to change that one simple thing, to no avail.

Julian Sharp If you have an exam booked, you will be shown a message and link to contact Credentials support https://learn.microsoft.com/credentials/support/help#how-to-submit-a-support-request

Yes, Julian, correct! However, see above.

Also, the steps on that page under section "How to submit a support request" are completely wrong.

Following the URL in this section or the link to Credential Support both send you to Engage Center.

No, there isn't a "Product category" for "Learning" (if you don't believe me, try it for yourself)

There also isn't a "Product or Service" for "Microsoft Credentials". The closest match for "Credentials" is "Global Credit Services"

Most Product categories redirect you to other pages where usually a work or school account is required, whilst Microsoft Learn recommends against using a work or school account, as you would lose access to your Certificates if said account is deactivated.

I'm baffled at how they manage to make something as simple as this completely impossible for regular users, but I wish you good luck in finding a solution to this!

Right now the fastest and easiest solution is to make a new account, but nobody wants that ;)

Hello, I'm Quinn and here to help!

If you're referring to your Microsoft certification profile (and the name issue is blocking exams), you can update it by following these steps:

    1. Sign in to your Microsoft Certification Profile.
    2. Click “Edit profile.”
    3. Select “Request change” next to your legal name.
    4. Enter your correct full legal name exactly as it appears on your government-issued ID.
    5. Submit the request for review.

    After submitting:

    • You will receive a confirmation email with a support request number.
    • A second email is usually sent within 24 business hours (Monday–Friday) confirming approval or requesting additional verification.
    • Please note that updates may take up to 72 hours to reflect across systems.

May I ask if you could clarify whether this name change is for certifications/exams or for your main Microsoft account?

If the “legal name” for exams/certifications was entered incorrectly and is blocking exams, how to open a support request via the Microsoft credentials support page and ask for a legal name correction, providing the correct full name and how long it takes

Updating the legal name depends on where it appears and which Microsoft service is using it.

    1. If this is the Microsoft account name (used for sign-in, Outlook.com, Windows, etc.):
      • Sign in to the Microsoft account page.
      • Go to Your info.
      • Select Edit name, change Sandeep Yarramsetty to Venkata Sandeep Yarramsetty, then select Save.
      • It can take up to 24 hours for the new name to appear everywhere.
    2. If this is the display name on email recipients’ side in Outlook (classic Outlook for Windows or Outlook for Mac):
      • In classic Outlook for Windows: File > Account Settings > Account Settings → select the account → Change → update the Your name field to Venkata Sandeep YarramsettyNextClose.
      • In Outlook for Mac: Tools > Accounts → select the account → under Personal Information, update Full Name to Venkata Sandeep Yarramsetty.
      • If the account type is Microsoft Exchange and the name cannot be edited, contact the organization’s Exchange or Microsoft 365 administrator to update the name.
    3. If this is organizational profile information (for example, what others see on the contact card in a work/school environment):
      • Some profile fields (name, title, etc.) are managed by IT or HR systems.
      • Contact the organization’s IT or HR department or Microsoft 365 admin and ask them to update the legal name to Venkata Sandeep Yarramsetty in the directory/HR system.
    4. If this is the name on Microsoft Learn or certification-related records:
      • Update the display name in Microsoft Learn profile settings (profile icon → SettingsPersonal info, username, and URL → change display name → Save).
      • If the “legal name” for exams/certifications was entered incorrectly and is blocking exams, open a support request via the Microsoft credentials support page and ask for a legal name correction, providing the correct full name.
