The notification itself is not required for safe removal; what matters is using one of the supported eject methods. If the classic “Safe to Remove Hardware” toast does not appear, use one of these supported paths instead.
- Use the system tray icon
- In the taskbar notification area, select Show hidden icons (chevron) if needed.
- Right‑click Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media.
- Select Eject <your MP3 player>.
- Once the device disappears from this menu, it can be safely removed even if a separate pop‑up notification is not seen.
- Make sure the tray icon is enabled
- Right‑click the taskbar and select Taskbar settings (or use the Personalization > Taskbar shortcut in the article).
- Under Notification area, select Other system tray icons (or Select which icons appear on the taskbar, depending on build).
- Turn On the entry for Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media (or Windows Explorer: Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media).
- Confirm the icon now shows in the notification area when the MP3 player is connected.
- Use Settings as an alternative eject method
If the tray icon or notification is unreliable, remove the device via Settings instead:
- Select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices.
- Under Other devices, find the MP3 player.
- Select it to expand, then choose Remove / Remove device.
- When it disappears from the list, it can be safely unplugged.
- Keyboard-only method from the taskbar
- Press Windows logo key + B to focus the notification area.
- Use arrow keys until “Safely remove hardware and eject media button” is selected, then press Enter.
- Use the Down arrow to select the MP3 player and press Enter to remove it.
If the device no longer appears in the tray list at all, Windows may not be recognizing it; in that case, check whether it shows up under Other devices in Settings as described above.
