Microsoft teams desktop client screenshare stopped working on ubuntu 18.04?

Hello, I am running ubuntu 18.04. I installed the microsoft teams client from the debians maybe 6 months ago. The screensharing option used to work in calls. Then, one day, about two or three months ago, it stopped working. When I click the share button, there aren't any screen selections to click on. This issue happened to all of my coworkers running linux at the same time, so it is probably due to an update. I didn't intentionally update but I guess it does it automatically. It is probably solveable by downgrading to a previous version, but I'm not sure how to do that, or how to prevent forced updates in the future.

The screensharing still works in google chrome.

Any idea how to fix this?

You could try to rename this file on your machine:

/usr/share/teams/resources/app.asar.unpacked/node_modules/slimcore/bin/rect-overlay

Thanks, but I tried this and it didn't work. I don't think it's the exact same issue. I'm pretty sure that downgrading to the older version where it used to work would solve the problem, but I'm not sure how to downgrade, and no one on that forum explains how.

I did not find the way to downgrade Teams to the older version.
You could try to look for if there is an old package for Teams on your machine.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there is. And even if there was, teams appears to update automatically without a choice, which is how the update that caused this issue appeared in the first place. Good suggestion though!
Any other ideas?

You’re right. Microsoft Teams client updates automatically and we have no way to stop this.

For now, I have no other idea about this issue. I will discuss with other engineer about this issue and look for if there is any other workaround. Any updates I will share with you. Thanks for your understanding.

Hi Sharon, thanks for the help! Did you get a chance to talk to the other engineers? Did they have any suggestions?

Still trying to figure out a solution here on my end.

I was able to downgrade my Teams version and then screen sharing started working again but I forgot to remove it from the update list and when it auto-updated again my downgrade no longer resolved the issue. I've tried every solution I've been able to find (including rect-overlay) with no luck. I've been forced to use Goto meeting and webex now with all my clients.
