Hi,
where can i find a product key for the evaluation of a "Windows Server 2022 ESSENTIAL" version?
For the 2019 Essential version a product key can be found here: https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/evalcenter/download-windows-server-2019-essentials
But for the 2022 ESSENTIAL version i found nothing.

You'll need another Server Standard member server stood up in order to add the RDS role. RDS role cannot be added to 2019/2022 Essentials server. Also note 2022 essentials is limited to 1 socket and 10 cores max.

Couldn't say whether such a doc exists or not. This limitation has been well known for years. Your OEM seller or their trained microsoft licensing specialist may be able to provide something for you.

For 2022 essentials moved to an OEM-only product so that's likely why there isn't an evaluation version. Also note the same Standard install media is used, then the product key initiates the conversion to essentials.

There are no public downloads for Server 2022 essentials. It is only available as part of an OEM purchase. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/pricing
The purpose of an evaluation version is to find out whether the product is suitable for the desired needs. In the case of the Essentials version, for example, whether it makes sense to set up a terminal server environment for small companies (3-5 employees) with this version (one Essential installation as a DC, one with domain membership as a member server). It is clear that this is possible with the standard version, but it should be implemented with the cheaper Essentials version.
Why the restriction of the distribution channel to OEM also means that the product can no longer be evaluated in advance is beyond me.

You can not install the RDS role on essentials.

Essential install source is the same as the standard install source.
The user rights says, for RDS you must acquire the corresponding version of Windows Server Remote Desktop Services CAL for each user or device that (i) directly or indirectly accesses the Remote Desktop Services functionality.
So i can not find any hint, why this should not work. Maybe you can?
I think it's the same like it is with "don't install MSQL on an DC" ... a lot of admins tell this and its surely ok for bigger installations ... but for 3 to 5 users ???
