"Sign-in page is being retired" is not a standard Outlook desktop authentication error that I recognize. Can you please provide a screenshot of the message? (Redact any occurrences of your email address)

Capture and Paste a Screen Shot

    • Use the Windows Snipping Tool to capture a Screen Shot, See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/apps/use-snipping-tool-to-capture-screenshots
    • After you have captured the screen shot, in the Snipping Tool window, use the "Pen" tool to scribble over any personal info in your image. e.g. Cover over any full email address.
    • Right-Click in the "Add comment" box below this Answer and choose "Paste".
    • In the "Insert Image" dialog that pops up at the top of the Comment, click [Insert image].
    • You should see your image appear in the Comment.

First test the same Microsoft email account in Outlook.com; if web access works, switch to classic Outlook when available or repair/reset New Outlook on Windows 11.

Since the retirement-message instructions did not work, do not repeat that workflow. The message refers to a changing sign-in experience, not necessarily a retired email account.

    1. Determine whether the account or New Outlook is failing

Open Outlook.com in a browser and sign in with the same Microsoft email address and password. Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, and MSN addresses use the associated Microsoft Account credentials.^1^

    • If browser sign-in fails: Run the Microsoft Account sign-in helper. Enter the affected email address and complete the recommended account-recovery or verification action.^2^
    • If browser sign-in works: The failure is likely specific to New Outlook or its desktop authentication path. Continue below.

    2. Use classic Outlook temporarily, if it is installed

If classic Outlook came with Microsoft 365 or Office:

    1. Open New Outlook.
    2. Turn off the New Outlook toggle or select the option to Go to classic Outlook.
    3. Open classic Outlook and add the account there.

Microsoft documents switching out of New Outlook, but this option requires classic Outlook to be installed.^3^ If classic Outlook is unavailable, proceed with repairing New Outlook.

    3. Repair and then reset New Outlook

    1. Close Outlook completely.
    2. Select Start → Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
    3. Find Outlook (new).
    4. Select the three dots → Advanced options → Repair.
    5. Reopen Outlook and try signing in.
    6. If it still fails, return to the same page and select Reset.^4^

Reset removes New Outlook’s local app settings/data and normally requires adding the account again; it does not delete Outlook.com mail stored on Microsoft’s servers.

After resetting, open New Outlook and enter the account manually. New Outlook supports Microsoft accounts such as Outlook.com and Hotmail accounts.^5^

    4. If Reset does not work

    Uninstall and reinstall the app:

    1. Go to Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
    2. Find Outlook (new) and select three dots → Uninstall.
    3. Restart Windows.
    4. Open Microsoft Store, search for Outlook for Windows, and install it.
    5. Open it and add the account manually.

Also check Microsoft’s New Outlook known-issues page for a current sign-in incident or published workaround.^6^

If the browser and the reinstalled app both reject the account, use the Microsoft Account help route for account-specific support.^7^
