Breaking Change Notice: Update your API Management API version to 2021-08-01 or later by 30 September 2023

Today I received this notice regarding a retirement of a api version:

On 30 September 2023, all API versions older than 2021-08-01 will be retired and API calls using those API versions will fail. This means you'll no longer be able to create or manage your API Management services using your existing templates, tools, scripts, or programs until they've been updated. Data operations (such as accessing the APIs or products configured on Azure API Management) will be unaffected by this update, including after 30 September 2023.

As it states, this was 3 days ago and this is the FIRST notice I've received. I'm not seeing any of my older versions of api's fail... was this a typo? should it be for 2024??

if it matters these emails show "Tracking ID 6VY3-TZZ"

In the ARM template we have to change API version of

"type": "Microsoft.ApiManagement/service", OR "type": "Microsoft.ApiManagement/service/apis", for this?

AlexR2020 Thanks for posting your question in Microsoft Q&A. The above breaking change was published in doc: API version retirements (September 2023) and the API version was scheduled to retire on Sep 30, 2023.

However, this is not retired yet and I am still waiting for our product team to confirm the latest. I will keep you posted once I have more info. But please follow the doc and make the required action to move towards the latest API version in your templates/tools/scripts. Sorry about the miscommunication and we will update the doc as well accordingly.

Hi, I appreciate that this Retirement appears to have been delayed, but as well as being keen to obtain an exact switchoff estimation, would it be possible to clarify what is defined as a "Data Operation" please?

eg. would the following REST API Call to Update a Subscription (if using a pre 2021-08-01 version) fail after the change or would these continue to function?? (effectively, are these considered Data Operations?)

Kevin Pearce Accessing APIs or products via gateway is a data operation, however action such as subscription update is a management operation (check out different management operations here).

Is there any more news on the date? I can still make calls using this API.
