Hi,

At the time I have a SCCM Server 2207 as standalone primary site server without any CAS and with one Domain. Now I want to install a second SCCM Server 2309 on the same domain.

my questions:

  1. Is that possible?
  2. How is it with the Boundary?
  3. How is it with the Container "System Management" on the domain (ADSI)? Can I add here my second SCCM Server without any problem? Does it has it any effects on my domain or my sccm server 2207?

  1. Can I add that new sccm machine in AD and Delegate Control?
  2. How is it with Client machine? I mean how can the client know with which MP should be connected?
  3. How can I deploy applications or Windows Update to the clients if I have two SCCM primary site?
  4. by installing new SCCM primary site I will have a different DB and different Site name. Is that a problem?
  5. How is with device Collection? Because at the time I have installed the sccm client version 2207 on my all devices?
  6. If the SCCM server 2309 is installed. How is it now with SCCM Client on the windows client machines? because the Window clients has now sccm clients 2207?
  7. Is there any Step by step Guide?

Regards

    Hi, @PerserPolis-1732

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

In my experience, we can run two SCCM servers on the same domain, just make sure the boundaries do not overlap and site codes are unique.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong... but what we need to find out from you is "What problem are you trying to solve?"

Is it simply that you want to migrate/replace the existing physical server with a new one? https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/migration/administrator-checklists-for-migration-planning

I simply don't understand the 'why' behind having two Primary sites, with two different site codes, in the same domain?

    I have two reason

1.Upgrade my running SCCM 2207 to 2211/2303/2309 does not work and I did do here all but the MP does not work.

2.What is here wrong? Why can I not have multi primary site?

I want to migrate and I can migrate to other server. But tell me please, can the migration process upgrade from 2207 to 2309?

    Regards

If you are migrating to a new server and hierarchy, with the intention of turning off the 2207 server, then yes, there is a guide to do EXACTLY THAT. It's time consuming; but it can be done. It just takes time and planning.

    Start here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/migration/administrator-checklists-for-migration-planning

The trick will be exactly 'when' you move the boundaries, and 'when' you'll tell the clients to ccmsetup.exe with RESETKEYINFORMATION=TRUE SMSSITECODE=THENEWSITECODE to upgrade/move themselves from old site code to new site code.

That'll be the fun part. (where I'm saying the word 'fun' but MEAN the words "slightly traumatic")

Is there the only way to upgrade my 2207 to 2309?

Tell me please why can I not have two primary site on the same domain?

Do you have a other Link which describe step by step the migration?

How is wit my all Collections and Applications I created? Does it work after migration?

How is with D:\Source I shared for my Applications?
