Teams will not give the option for sharing a window only during a meeting on VDI.

New to VDI environments and can't really find much documentation on this issue if it even exists out there. We are a heavy VDI environment, I'm the admin of MS Teams and have been tasked with finding this issue and what my be causing it. Basically our users can share the full screen only and not just the window of the content they want to share during a meeting. A fully installed client lets you share just a window but when using VDI you're limited to screen only. Is there an obvious setting that we are missing in the VDI world or is it resource related not allowing the window only share?

I have been experiencing this issue also. I use VMWare Horizon client v8.5.0 and Windows 10 Enterprise, with Teams 1.6.00.35961 (64-bit). VMware Media Optimized. It was last updated on 1/5/24. For someone using Teams hourly for enterprise work, this is a really frustrating issue and reflect poorly on both Microsoft and VMWare.

    Hi @Justin Altstadt

Basically our users can share the full screen only and not just the window of the content they want to share during a meeting.

Do you mean selectively sharing screen content?

Based on our research, you could try the following step to selectively share screen content:

In Teams meeting > select Share content in your meeting controls > select Window > You can then pick the window you want to share.

Teams will not give the option for sharing a window only during a meeting on VDI.

Does anyone else have the same issue?

Have you tried schedule meeting In Teams on the web to check if the issue still occurs?

Based on your description, there are some possible solutions to address the issue:

    1. Check and update Microsoft Teams.
    2. If you’re using the Teams desktop, try using the web version: https://teams.microsoft.com/.
    3. Clear the Teams cache from your device.

Note: If you're using Teams on the web, you'll be able to share your screen only if you're using Google Chrome or the latest version of Microsoft Edge. Screen sharing isn't available for Linux users.
