    Hey @Adam Burns ,

both apps have in a different development status.
The Remote Desktop 8 is a previous version. The new Remote Desktop app is version 10 and comes with a lot of new features.
Microsoft kept the old version in the store for people, that don't want to change anything in the app.

If you want all the new features, use the remote desktop app.
The new app works simply fine (writing this answer by using the new app).

Hope I could help you. Have a nice day :)

I have exactly the same question. The descriptions are almost the same. I found no meaningful difference.

Remote Desktop: Use Microsoft Remote Desktop for Android to connect to a remote PC or virtual apps and desktops made available by your admin. With Microsoft Remote Desktop, you can be productive no matter where you are.
Remote Desktop 8: Use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app to connect to a remote PC or virtual apps and desktops made available by your admin. With Microsoft Remote Desktop, you can be productive no matter where you are.

Remote Desktop 8 does not support microphone redirection, thus is not suitable, if you want to Skype/Teams/etc through your remote desktop connection.
The older app (Remote Desktop 8) is more intuitive, but the one named Remote Desktop clearly has more features.
