New Teams - unverified users

Hi

we are experiencing some use showing as "unverified" in Teams Meeting. Some have to be admitted from the lobby. All users are member of our tenancy. This is only occurring since move to new Teams.

Can't speak for the others that posted but this is a wider issue than the Steps you listed. There have been no changes to the Tenant from our level. And as troubleshooting I have open the meeting up as wide as I can safely make them and the issue still persists.

My organization is experiencing this as well. Many local tenant users showing up in meetings (scheduled with Everyone can bypass the lobby and people dialing in can bypass the lobby) as unverified since upgrading to New Teams. Affected users are joining via New Teams desktop, not web, mobile or dial-up.

My organization is experiencing this, as well. We are using New Teams. Affected users are joining via multiple methods. It is seriously affecting productivity for our meetings.

We are an established tenant for more than a year. However, the member that was unverified is a new member to our company. Could that possibly be the reason he was unverified when attending his first meeting?

We are experiencing this issue as well, we moved to New Teams on July 1st. Only a handful of users are showing Unverified.

I'm having the same problem.

This is so frustrating. Teams is such a good plattform, but the new Teams is causing so many problems (access restrictions, multiple versions of Teams, blocking chats with external users, etc.), that I simply can't use Microsoft Teams for collaborating with other companies.

I too have the exact same problem.. my students have been added already in teams.. now they are unable to see the team and the meetings... I need to provide a meeting link every single time the meeting starts and admit them ... it says unverified.... and the worst thing is that they cannot access the chat box or the files in the teams...it is infuriating.

Strangely, I'll note that the opposite problem is also true; I'm not affiliated with Norfolk Constabulary, yet I don't appear as unverified, yet the rest of my team do.

Hi, I am upvoting this question - have the same exact situation.
We had a meeting, one more person wanted to join meeting and we had to accept it via lobby.

This person was tagged as "Unverified" but he was 100% from our org, account was a member in our tenant.

We're using new Teams.

What about personal MS accounts causing the issues? The issue we are seeing is specific to certain users. Investigating now.

As per original comment - all users are part of our organisation. There are no external users / guests involved

Unverified includes:

Microsoft Entra ID users who belong to organizations that do not have an explicit external access setup with the organizer’s organization.

Microsoft Account (personal) users.

sers who are not using any Microsoft ID while joining meetings, and others.

What your failing to understand is that users in any org are intermittently showing as unverified. They are logged into their org account, not a personal account. Where is the fix, it started when we pushed new teams ourselves

Microsoft published this notice on February 14, 2024. Organizers and meeting participants in your organization who attend meetings with users outside of their organization - with or without a Microsoft Entra ID - will see the changes in labels that reflect the trust level of the participant with the organizer (External, Unverified, or no label).

No label: All participants who are part of the organizer’s organization.
External: All participants who are external to the organizer’s organization but have a trusted relationship with the organizer or their organization.
Unverified: All other participants will be seen with this label. This will include Microsoft Entra ID users who belong to organizations that do not have an explicit external access setup with the organizer’s organization, Microsoft Account (personal) users, users who are not using any Microsoft ID while joining meetings, and others.

Any updates on a fix? This still happens intermittently. There have been no changes on the tenant level and this only started happening when switching to the New Teams.

Also experiencing this issue. Users are part of our organization and signed into Office products including teams, but still coming up as unverified.

What makes little sense to me is how users in our own tenant that have been in the same meeting invite for months will all of a sudden have a one-off 'Unverified' status, and it will never happen again after that, but it raises concerns from management. Any updates as to why this is happening?

These changes make it increasingly difficult for attendees from outside our organization to use Teams. Some cannot use the chat function. This makes no sense from a security standpoint, especially if the organizer admits the attendee, why would they be unverified? We're probably going to have to switch back to Zoom if we can't get this issue resolved. Very inconvenient.

Let me add a twist to this, same user, Classic Teams.....does NOT come into meeting as "Unverified User"

If the user leaves the meeting and rejoins in new Teams. "Unverified User AND I have to allow them in from the lobby.

This is a NEW Teams problem.

People from my organization are complaining that even for internal meetings with internal users(from the same organization) some of us are having the "unverified" tag, is either a bug from new Teams or i don't know why is this happening, so far no one came with a resolution

This could be related to Privacy and Security settings. I have recently seen this on a Mac User and once the privacy and security settings were uploaded it mitigated the "Unverified" state issue.

Hi Joe, The output I received that it was possibly down to machine privacy settings so it might be worth looking down that route. Failing spotting something there, there is a setting in the Teams 2.0 client where you can navigate to "Go to Security & Privacy > Screen Recording to give permission and start sharing". This seemed to provide resolution when operating over "Teams on the Web". I would probably recommend seeing if the "Unverified" issue translate to the user over browser and it is does, look at the Teams Privacy setting. If not, and it looks ok over Browser id look at things like local windows privacy settings, clearing teams cache, reinstalling teams. We are still looking to resolve on the Teams 2.0 client, we also saw the "Unverified" issue in the browser which we were able to resolve.
