Hello,
Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.
If you want to permanently disable updates for Windows 10, we recommend trying the following methods:
To disable the Windows Update service in the service:
Press Win+R to open the "Run" dialog box, enter services.msc, and then press Enter to open the "Services" window.
Find the "Windows Update" service in the service list. Right click on the service and select "Properties".
In the properties window, set the "Startup Type" to "Disabled", and then click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Click the "Apply" and "OK" buttons to save the changes.
To prevent the Windows Update service from restarting, we also need to go to Windows Update ->Properties ->Recovery, ensure that the "Enable" option is not selected, and click the "Apply" and "OK" buttons to save the changes.
To disable the "Configure Automatic Updates" policy in Group Policy:
Press Win+R to open the Run dialog box, enter gpedit.msc, and then press Enter to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
Go to "Computer Configuration" ->"Administrative Templates" ->"Windows Components" ->"Windows Update".
Find and double-click the "Configure Automatic Update" policy on the right interface. Select "Disabled" and then click "OK".
By performing the above steps, you can temporarily disable the Windows Update service and prevent it from restarting after the computer restarts. Please remember to regularly check for Windows updates and ensure timely system updates for security before your owner allows them to be updated again.
I hope it will be helpful to you
Best regards,
Jill Zhou
