HI All
We have observed a case in our database where the CPU perncetage is 100% for quite some time but my application are still able to hit & operate over DB, is 100% CPU usage isnt a blocker for DB operations ??
I see 2 CPU metrics 1) CPU Percentage(MAX) 2) SQ:L instance CPU percentage(MAX) what is the difference btwn them ? in my case CPU percentage is 100% but SQLInstance CPU percentage is 50% only
please share me insights on this metrics and how to translate this.

CPU metrics:'CPU percentage' & 'SQL Instance CPU percentage'
Azure portal exposes two CPU metrics to customers to track the CPU utilization: 'CPU percentage' and 'SQL Instance CPU percentage'
There are several distinct symptoms associated with high CPU usage.
High CPU usage in Azure SQL Database can be caused by a variety of factors, including increased workload volume, changes in query execution plans, excessive parallelism, MAXDOP, and long running transactions, query execution or query compilation.
This might require a closer look at your environment to mitigate the issue.

Thanks for the response , my observation is if this state the CPU is 100% it should ideally block all the Database operations but that was not the case during that time for 3.5 hrs. what to understand how is this different ?

100% CPU utilization doesn't make queries fail directly. It makes them run slower. If there is a timeout set on the client, then the slowness may cause the timeout to be hit, which fails the query.
