Hi,

I need clarification on Licensing for Windows 10 LTSC 21H2 upgrade.

Currently the workstations have windows 10 LTSC 1809. Can this be upgraded on prem with the existing LTSC 1809 Windows license or is there a requirement for purchasing a new license for Windows 10 LTSC 21H2.

If the license is KMS, it's not changed
OEM or MAK require new license

FYI, LTSC 2021 support ends before LTSC 2019

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

Upgrading from one version of Windows 10 LTSC (Long-Term Servicing Channel) to another typically requires a new license. The LTSC versions are designed for situations where stability and long-term support are critical, and therefore each release is treated somewhat independently in terms of licensing.

This means you would likely need to buy new licenses for Windows 10 LTSC 21H2 if you are moving from Windows 10 LTSC 1809. However, it's always a good idea to consult with your Microsoft volume licensing representative or reseller to confirm the specifics related to your organization and any potential licensing agreements you might already have. They can provide the most accurate and up-to-date information.

I hope the information above is helpful.

    Best Regards,

    Yanhong Liu
