Additional features, settings, or issues not covered by specific Microsoft Teams categories
While there's no direct export chat function within Teams itself, you can follow these steps to manually save or export the chat content:
- Copy and Paste Method:
- Open the Microsoft Teams app.
- Navigate to the chat you want to export.
- Scroll through the chat history to load all the messages you want to save. - Click and drag your cursor to highlight the text you want to copy.
- Use
Ctrl + C(Windows) orCmd + C(Mac) to copy the highlighted text. - Open a text editor (like Notepad, Microsoft Word, or any other document editor). - Paste the copied text using
Ctrl + V(Windows) orCmd + V(Mac). - Save the document with a suitable name and file format.
- Using Microsoft Teams Compliance Center:
If you have the right permissions within your organization, you can use the Microsoft Compliance Center to export chat conversations:
- Go to the Microsoft 365 compliance center (compliance.microsoft.com).
- Sign in with your administrator credentials.
- Navigate to "Content Search" under the "Solutions" section.
- Create a new search query to find the specific Teams chats.
- Once the search completes, you can export the results to a ZIP file.
