For a reason, when I arrange my files, shortcuts and documents at my computer's MAIN SCREEN, they rearrange themselves automatically after I shut down the desktop or log out of my Windows account. Why is that happening?

Please help because it is frustrating rearranging all the documents all the time.

    Hello Tasos Mrk,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

The issue of desktop icons rearranging themselves after a restart or logout is a common problem in Windows. Several factors might cause this:

1.Auto Arrange and Align to Grid Settings:

Check if the "auto-arrange icons" or "align icons to grid" options are enabled.

To do this: Right-click on an empty area of your desktop.

Hover over "View". Ensure "Auto arrange icons" and "Align icons to grid" are unchecked.

    2.Resolution Changes:

If your screen resolution changes during startup or shutdown, it can cause the icons to rearrange. Ensure that your display settings are consistent.

    3.Graphics Driver:

Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers might cause this issue. Update your graphics driver:

Right-click on "Start" and select "Device Manager."

    Expand the "Display adapters" section.

Right-click your graphics card and select "Update driver."

    4.Third-Party Software:

Sometimes, third-party desktop customization tools or software might interfere with icon positioning. Try disabling or uninstalling such tools.

    5.User Account Permissions:

Ensure that your user account has the necessary permissions to save desktop settings.

    6.Registry Settings:

Incorrect settings in the Windows Registry might cause this. Editing the Registry can be risky, so it's recommended to back up your data first.

And please test it on one test machine with the same version first and check if it helps.

Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.

    Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\1\Desktop.

Check and adjust the FFlags value to 43000001.

Or changed the registry as below.

If none of these solutions work, you might consider creating a new user profile to see if the issue persists there, which may help identify if the problem is specific to your current user profile.

Or if your machine is in one domain, maybe it is controlled by domain group policy settings.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Daisy Zhou
