Sorry, but there isn't necessarily a simple solution when you see that error message.

The message basically says that there is an XML coding error but it doesn't tell you if the error can be fixed relatively easily or if the document is broken beyond recovery. You will need someone who can take a look at the underlying XML.

I see you have posted the same question in the Microsoft Community at https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/what-is-the-solution-to-the-error-message-the/61cc014b-a7c8-4632-bff0-a620413e9ce3 .

    Hi @SHAUNIX

Here is a similar thread: The open XML file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents or the file name might contain invalid characters. Although the environment in this thread is Mac OS, but John McGhie's answer still has reference value.

This error message results from one of 2 conditions:

    1.  There are illegal character(s) somewhere in the HDD name or the path or file name of the file.
    2.  There is corruption within the XML code in the document.

For the first situation, you may check the HDD's name. But for the second situation, it may not be easy, it's best to find someone help you read XML.

    Thanks for your understanding.
